‘Pay What You Can’ – How to prepare for our next event in 3 easy steps

far & free’s first followers helped design the sunglasses collection you see today by voting for their favourite styles, colours, and product names. We love being a collaborative brand and want to make sure our small-batch, high-end designs are attainable and a unique way to do that is through Pay What You Can (PWYC). That’s right, you pick the price! These PWYC events can happen at anytime, so plan for our next one by narrowing down your favourite styles, budgeting what you can spend, and preparing for the arrival of your new sunglasses!

1. Browse the collection and fall in love with your favourites

Colour – Do you prefer neutral tones that will go with everything in your closet, or do you want a fun and fearless punch of colour that embodies your joie de vivre spirt and love for the outdoors?

Shape – Honestly, just wear what you love no matter what! Some people have a go-to sunglass shape that never fails. If you do, congrats! That’s half the battle. If you don’t know what looks good on you, here’s a cheat sheet to consider:

Size – How will you know if they fit? Check out each product page to see the size listed under the description. It helps to compare far & free's size with a pair of sunglasses or glasses you may already own. If the temples or frame front width come within 3 - 6 mm of your current pair, they'll usually fit well.

Each frame comes in 2 different nose depth options. The most common size you'll find on Canadian sunglasses is the Medium 9mm option, which tends to support average to high nose bridges. The 2nd option you have to choose from is the Long 12mm size, which is best suited for narrow or low and wide nose bridges. If you find that most sunglasses sit on your cheeks, especially when you smile, the Long 12mm size will help push the frame further out.

2. Set a budget

Pay What You Can is our way of keeping the brand’s collaborative spirit alive while making small-batch, high-end design approachable and transparent. These events happen a few times throughout the year and we want you to feel comfortably prepared for them.

How does PWYC work? Enter any price between the pre-determined min and max amounts that you can pay for a pair of far & free sunglasses (taxes added at checkout). Your unique decision is confidential and here’s how we stretch your dollars to keep the lights on while growing our woman-owned, Pacific Northwest inspired brand:

  • $95 - $135: Helps far & free with its marketing, production and overhead costs.
    • Metal sunglasses starting at $95
    • Acetate sunglasses starting at $115
  • $135 - $165: Allows us to show up in the community by covering pop-up vendor fees, supporting local charities, and participating in fun giveaways.
  • $165 - $195: Goes towards the future growth of far & free like product design, manufacturing, and working with local models and photographers for the next sunglass collection that you get to vote on!
